Sultanpur Lodhi is one of the most ancient cities of India. From the 1st century to the 6th century AD, was a major place of meditation and knowledge for Buddhism. In that period, the city was known by the name ‘Sarwmanpur’.

In the 8th century, this place was established as a great empire of Hinduism and Buddhism. Many coins and other objects of that period has been found from the excavations of the city. Later, the city was invaded and burnt to ashes by an Afghan ruler for being a Hindu-Buddhist city.
The proof is, thick layer of black soil, found few meters below the ground level here. It was later rebuild and named as Sultanpur Lodhi by a relative of Delhi emperor as he was attracted by the beauty of the surroundings. It served as a trade route of Delhi and Lahore as well. Sultanpur was also famous for education; Aurangzeb completed his studies in one white mosque of Sultanpur Lodhi. Sultanpur Lodhi was also called ‘Perran Puri’ {city of monks}.
The association of Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Sultanpur Lodhi began in the 14th century when Bebe Nanaki Ji (Guru Ji’s older sister) was married to Shri Jai Ram of Sultanpur Lodhi. Guru Mahraj Ji’s father was concerned about the future of their son. Resulting, in which they were sent in the custody of Shri Jai Ram and employed to manage the modi khana (food supplies store) there. One of the most important historical event that took place here is that this was where the world was blessed with Mool Mantar by Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj.
1. Gurdwara Ber Sahib
Gurdwara Ber Sahib is where Guru Ji used to meditate.
Kali Bein, the river where Mahraj went missing for three days from the physical world merging back into Akaal Purakh in Sachkand.
2. Gurdwara Sant Ghat
Gurdwara Sant Ghat is where Guru Ji re-emerged after three days and gave the updesh of "Mool Mantar" from Nirankar to the world as well as set out to preach the path of truth.
3. Guru Ka Bagh
Guru Ka Bagh, house of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Mahraj where two of their sons, Baba Sri Chand Ji and Baba Lakmi Das Ji was born.
Gurdwara Hatt Sahib - marks the spot where Guru Nanak worked as the custodian of Nawab Daulat Khan's provision stores. The stones are believed to be weights used by Guru Mahraj.
5. Gurdwara Sri Kothri Sahib
Gurdwara Sri Kothri Sahib, a narrow low roofed cell in a small house in Mohalla Vaddian, is where Guru Nanak was detained while their accounts were being checked following a false complaint lodged by his detractors.
6. Gurdwara Sri Antaryamta Sahib
Gurdwara Sri Antaryamta Sahib, marks the site of a mosque to which Nawab Daulat Khan had invited Guru Nanak to participate in namaz or muslim prayer. Here, the Nawab and Qazi fall at Guru Ji’s feet as they told them exactly what both of them had been thinking of as they prayed.
7. Gurdwara Sri Bebe Nanaki
Gurdwara Sri Bebe Nanaki, constructed in 1970's, honours Bebe Nanaki Ji, elder sister of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Mahraj. The actual house, a three storeyed old building where Bebe Nanaki is believed to have lived with her husband, Jai Ram, is inside the old town in Mohalla Chhimbian.
8. Gurdwara Sri Sehra Sahib
Gurdwara Sri Sehra Sahib is dedicated to Guru Arjan Dev Ji who passed through Sultanpur in 1604 on their way to Dalla for the marriage of their son, the future Guru Hargobind Ji Mahraj. According to tradition, the marriage party stayed overnight at this place.
