Yatra Series 2: Gurdwara Shaheedi Bagh

Gurdwara Shaheedi Bagh, a historically rich asthan with amazing architecture build in 14 years by the Nihung Singhs. This place hold a lot of historical significance mainly for being the cremation (saskar) place of Shaheed Singhs of Anandpur Sahib. There also used to be a garden here from which Mata Jito Ji used to make flower garland for Guru Mahraj. If you read the sakhi of Soyna and Moyna, their garden was also around this area.

Shaheedi Bagh Gurdwara maintains puratan Langgar maryada of using only Sarbloh utensils, milk from their own cows and water from their own well as well as only Langari Singhs that keeps full Rehat.

Shaheedi asthan of Anandpur Sahib Shaheeds where their saskar used to be done is also here.

Bhai Nand Lal Ji’s Langgar. Guru Ji disguised as a common pilgrim here and went to the Langgars early in the morning asking for food and got rejected by most except by Bhai Nand Lal ji.

Old Sunehras (vessels) found from the excavation of this place:

Oak tree from the time of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Mahraj. Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s elephant, named Parshadi, used to be tied here. According to local tradition, when the tree dried out the Sangat asked Guru Gobind Singh Ji to help turn it green again.Guru Ji was supposed to have said that when a lady, who has never scolded a man, comes here then the tree would turn green again. Eventually, such women arrived and the tree is green since then.

It is an amazing asthan with a lot of historical significance as well as amazing architecture. The Hola Mahalla procession usually starts from this asthan as well. Do visit it the next time you go to Anandpur Sahib!
